| Named to commemorate a
gentle and wonderful woman - new to the US last year is this wonderful
Floribunda Julia Child - introduced by Weeks Roses. We're happy
to have a few of these for 2008 after growing a sample here this year.
I'm thinking this is likely to become my favorite yellow in all cases except
where a larger or taller bush would be necessary. The growth of this
plant is healthy to a fault and vigorous in bloom. While it does bloom
somewhat in flushes it works out to almost always be in bloom. The
blooms are a little short stemmed for cuttings but in the informal setting
or my home this is not a problem. The fragrance while I've seen it
called "licorice" strikes me as something else - spicy and lovely indeed -
but to my nose I still have not been able to call it. A little slow to
start, this plant seems to be one that likes lots of leg room (root).
There is a striking difference in size between those plants grown in 1
gallon pots versus those in 3 gallon pots I used for testing. I'd
expect quick growth though on repotting.
